The annual conference of the North Carolina Notary Association took place on April 21-22, 2023, in Wilmington, NC.
On April 21, the NCNA sponsored an e-Notary class in the morning, followed by a Meet and Greet in the evening. The Meet and Greet was attended by The Honorable Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall, Ozie Stallworth, Director of eNotarization and Enforcement from the North Carolina Secretary of State, and Wayne Goodwin, DMV Commissioner from the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
On April 22, our 21st Annual Conference took place, featuring Keynote Speaker Director Ozie Stallworth, who gave two presentations. His first addressed the legislative changes as the NC Secretary of State's office develops a framework for Remote Electronic Notarization (REN). His second explored the history of the Office of Notary Public in North Carolina. We were honored to award three scholarships: one in honor of Secretary of State Elaine Marshall for Membership, another in honor of Dennis W. "Bud" Cameron for Merit, and a third in memory of Woodrow Franklin "Jack" Penny for Need. Additionally, we heard from Escrowtab, an approved electronic notary solution provider in North Carolina. The event featured a compelling panel discussion led by Crystal Gillard, Register of Deeds, Union County; Jennifer Keel, Director of Vehicle Services DMV; Angela Beeman-Ratliff, Hanover Medical Center; and Ozie Stallworth, Secretary of State.
